About Windermere, Cambridge's personal rest home care
In the Area
Within an easy walking distance of 1km we have access to the cafes, shops and galleries of Cambridge Town Centre, Cambridge Library, and bus services to Hamilton and the rest of New Zealand. Te Ko Utu Park and Lake is just across the road from Windemere.
Windermere is located in the rural township of Cambridge. The home overlooks a spacious park that has many mature trees and a large lake. With 21 rooms and full time nursing staff Windermere is able to provide a caring and friendly environment, and a varied and stimulating programme of activities.
Personal care is especially important to us at Windermere. As far as possible we endeavor to plan your care to accommodate your preferences. This includes things like 'sleeping in' 'staying up late' or having your shower at the time of day that suits you. Touch and talking are very important aspects of our care, spending time with a resident just doing their nails is an example of how this can easily be achieved. We celebrate all of life's events with our residents, from birthdays, anniversaries and any other day of significance to the resident or their family.
Our small size and teamwork means that we do not get so tied to a routine that we can't be flexible. If something impromptu arises we like to be able to respond. We make this a family friendly home so visitors can come and go just as they would if you were in your own home. The children of family members often visit.
Our Team
The staff at Windemere are a close-knit team who laugh a lot, know how to read each other well and recognise how people feel each day. The owners are part of this team and they are as familiar and comfortable with all the tasks in the home as everyone else. Our teamwork means that we all 'pitch in' and help where it's needed. There is a real sense of camaraderie and collegial support. Training is undertaken in the home during the course of the day and learning is applied in a supervised way.
Our team includes caregivers, two Registered Nurses and an Activities Coordinator. We also coordinate the services of a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Hairdresser, Podiatrist, Dietician, Kaumatua, and Chaplain as required.
Windemere is owned and operated by Craig MacDonald and Deborah van Dorsten. We are passionate about providing a caring and courteous environment, with ongoing staff training to maintain and develop our high standards.
Memberships and Auditing
We are members of New Zealand Aged Care Association, and ACE ("Aged Care Education" Training programme). A full audit of our home is available here: Rest Home MOH Audit Report .
Accommodation
Windermere is a well presented and maintained home, warm and welcoming. An attractive, sunny outdoor area is available for residents to enjoy the outdoors in a lovely peaceful setting.
All of our rooms are single occupancy but we do have rooms that are large enough and suitable for couples. Residents are welcome to bring their own furniture and photos to hang up as this is important to help the settling in process. There are several comfortable and attractive lounges throughout the home for residents and their families.
One of our special little features is our upstairs apartment. This three bedroom flat has a dinette, lounge and a conservatory area and is suitable for those who are reasonably independent. There is a portable phone for residents use. The flat is fully supervised and is accessed via a lift.
